This self-run group, for existing players of all levels of ability and all types of recorder, meets term-time Thursday evenings (fortnightly) at Abingdon Music Centre (at Larkmead School).
The group usually has 6-10 players (sopranino, descant, treble, tenor, bass and great bass) and we choose the music by discussion. Administration of the group and provision of music is undertaken by volunteers. Musically the group operates collectively and we each share ideas about the interpretation of the music. We help each other with technical matters and recognise that we are all learning. We plan to enjoy playing together and make the best music we can.

Having not played a recorder since leaving Junior School, I was naturally a little nervous about joining the Adult Recorder Group. I needn’t have worried! Adrian and Jim made me feel very welcome and I soon began to realise that I hadn’t forgotten everything. The pieces we play cover all musical genres, from ‘The Teddy Bears’ Picnic’ to Bach fugues, and are hugely enjoyable. Some are quite straightforward, others a challenge, but the satisfaction in all reaching the end at the same time, and making a reasonable sound as we go along, is immense. All this is achieved in a very laidback and friendly atmosphere. I thoroughly enjoy the sessions and am very grateful for the good humoured tolerance of the other group members.
