We run two Ladies’ Choirs who meet weekly to rehearse on Tuesdays in term-time at Abbey Baptist Church, Checker Walk*.
Both choirs sing in three parts (SSA – Soprano 1, Soprano 2, Alto). The Morning Choir is well-established and prepares a variety of music for local performance while the Afternoon Choir was formed more recently in response to an increased demand for choral singing activities.
As well as a great opportunity to sing, these choirs regularly perform in local concerts and festivals and also enjoy socialising together. Both choirs are directed by Mary Wade and accompanied by Rob Thomas.
We currently have approximately 30 members in each choir. We have a good balance of Sopranos and Altos and a wide variety of ages. Members clearly enjoy their weekly rehearsals, plus the performances and socials that go alongside this.
* Please note the Afternoon Choir meets at Abingdon Music Centre (at Larkmead School) on the fourth Tuesday of the month from 2.00-3.30pm.

The choir is a place of fun, laughs and learning. Mary leads us with lots of encouragement, skill and patience! I always leave with a new bounce to my step and a new tune in my head! The AMC staff are always so helpful, welcoming and understanding.

The Morning Choir is a delightful way to spend Tuesday mornings. Singing and laughter under Mary’s wit and expertise is always good.

I have been a member of the Afternoon Choir for a few years now. Mary always manages to find a variety of interesting and challenging music. Her enthusiasm rolls onto us and we all enjoy the time in a friendly atmosphere with lots of laughter amidst the singing.
