The Mighty Orchestra needs your help to get to their performance in the National Festival of Music for Youth. Over 200 young musicians from schools across the Abingdon, Oxford and Thames Vale area will be travelling to one of the world’s greatest concert halls for a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

We are challenging every participant to raise some money. Every little helps get us closer to this amazing performance!

TVIO will introduce its members to the essential skills needed to play in an orchestra while exploring a wide range of exciting pieces from Baroque to movie music. The new orchestra (run by TVYO) is led and conducted by Helen Eccleston (Abingdon Music Centre teacher). It will meet at Larkmead School, Abingdon on Monday evenings (18.15- 19.45). Applications are now open and the new orchestra will begin rehearsals in September 2025. Gillian will be running intergenerational music sessions at Abingdon Court once a month on a Thursday at 10:30. These sessions will give you the chance to enjoy music with your child alongside forging friendships with residents of the care home.

Research has shown that music is so beneficial to mental health and historically when we have run similar sessions elsewhere, we have found that the residents have loved interacting with children and their parents for an enjoyable and engaging music session. It is also wonderful to see the children interacting with new faces and to grow in confidence in a new environment.

It’s been a fantastic decade and we have so enjoyed meeting new members in recent months. We celebrated with some bubbles and cake which was enjoyed by all. Here’s to the next 10 years!
